MAGICAL Self-Advocates of Greater Orlando, one of FL SAND’s local self-advocacy groups, will be celebrating its third annual Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day on Saturday, March 29 at Sunlight Community Church in Winter Garden. It is free and open to the public.
The event celebrates the contributions of individuals with disabilities in the greater Orlando area by providing a platform where disabled self-advocates can share their stories and experiences, fostering understanding and inclusivity.
This local Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day was first organized in 2023 by Michael Lincoln-McCreight, parliamentarian of FL SAND and MAGICAL president. By using the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council’s DD Awareness Day Toolkit, he petitioned for and received a proclamation for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day 2023 and 2024 from the City of Orlando. A proclamation for 2025 is currently in the works.

A highlight of the event will be a series of speeches delivered by disabled self-advocates who will share their personal journeys, highlighting the challenges they have faced, the barriers they have overcome, and the victories they have achieved. These powerful testimonies will offer unique insights into the lived experiences of people with disabilities, shedding light on issues such as accessibility, inclusion, and self-determination.
Don’t miss this powerful and inspiring event that will make a lasting impact on Orlando’s community. Join MAGICAL in celebrating the voices, achievements, and advocacy for people with disabilities from this community. Visit the group’s EventBrite page to get more information and to get a ticket.
